A little bit about us...

Approximately 14 years ago I went on a weekend course to make a teddy bear with Julia Jones in Derbyshire! What an exciting journey it has been since then. From that weekend the Thistleberry Bear label was started a few years later when the requests for bears began to grow. About 10 years ago we started to sell supplies sourcing direct from manufacturers to enable us to offer the best possible price, all year round. With the launch of our new web-site in December 2005 we renamed ourselves as Bear Basics.

I have always enjoyed using Schulte mohair and indeed stopped using any other make a long time ago. It was therefore a dream come true when in February 2007 we were able to incorporate Oakley Fabrics with our already established name. Now as the official authorized partner for Schulte within the UK we are able to order and import direct from the mill, the only supplier to do so. This enables us to offer unique fabrics and indeed we launched a new silk with mohair mix which had never been produced before!!
